The remaining 20% of the composition is PLA (Polylactic acid) which is created by fermenting the sugar in corn waste and other plants. PLA takes 65% less energy to create than conventional plastic and produces 68% less greenhouse gas emissions, and takes only 90 to 180 days to break down.
The compostable garment bags break down in 180 days in a home compost or 90 days if taken to a commercial facility, yielding nutrient-rich materials that can be used as fertilizer in the garden. Once these materials have broken down, they won’t leave behind any toxic chemicals or harmful particles.
