Packing list Womens March on Washington

Hey readers, I’m leaving in an hour to go down to D.C. for the Women’s March on Washington. Above is what I’m packing: my most comfortable walking boots by Fortress of Inca, Kind granola bars, a portable phone charger, a Dopper water bottle with a removable cup I can use for hot tea or cocoa, a Sharpie for writing my information on my arm, extra dry wool socks, a face mask with coconut fiber filters and goggles (in case the police use chemical spray on protesters), a poncho, an organic beanie that says, “Give a Shit” (the brand is no longer, sadly), statement pins from Round Plus Square, a Nettie Kent safety pin, a crochet water bottle sling, and a Hipsters for Sisters hands-free belt bag.

This article on how to prepare for the march was really helpful, but my real preparation came from attending Burning Man, no lie. The desert festival preaches radical self-reliance, so I already owned comfortable boots, the water bottle sling goggles, quality wool socks, and a hip bag. The other principles of Burning Man include radical inclusion, decommodification, radical self-expression, communal effort, civic responsibility, participation, and immediacy. These all have prepared me emotionally to hit the streets and agitate, to get political, to put my body there in democracy, instead of sitting behind my computer.

I’m ready, are you?
