When we talk about traditional art and fashion designed by Native American creators, there is no substitute for authenticity. There is no acceptable likeness of an indigenous artist’s work, and brands who appropriate (steal) their designs are not only taking money from the original artist, they are repackaging cultural tradition and expression they don’t understand and selling it without respect for the meaning behind it.
