On the Wish List: Study’s Two-Tone Baseball Tee for Of a Kind

I know you guys are always pleased to buy something special with a backstory. And a backstory involving a massively expensive designer and a runway collection just doesn’t carry the same caché as it did before among New York’s glitterati. Instead, you can turn to Of a Kind, which features one-offs by on-the-rise designers.

This week they’re featuring this beautiful baseball tee by an EcoCult favorite, Study NY. But it’s only loosely evocative of those dorky tees that have been banished from your closet since the 90s. Yes, there are the sleeves in a different color, a simple grey. But with casually drooping shoulders and heavy-weight French terry fabric, this might become a favorite for the weekend as we move into spring.

What’s better, this shirt is fantastically sustainable. The french terry is made using GOTS-certified organic cotton grown in Texas and knitted in South Carolina. Study ordered the fabric un-dyed, then worked with The Dogwood Dyer to develop the perfect color for the pocket and sleeves in her Brooklyn studio. After trying out several colors made using locally-foraged plants and flowers, Tara St. James of Study and Liz Spencer of the Dogwood Dyer settled on the subtle grey tone created by tea and iron mix to compliment the natural un-dyed cotton. After the fabric was dyed, it was transported to a factory in midtown Manhattan, where most of the Study collection is produced.
