Celebrate the budding season with a full day of floral workshops hosted by me and the members of the Ethical Writers Coalition at Mode Marteau. We’re teaming up with to bring you Bloom: A Sustainable Workshop!

Learn to make your own fresh flower crown, create a perfect bouquet, or DIY a reclaimed vase. Join one (or all!) of these intimate classes for a hands-on and creative experience in sustainability, and (of course) lovely local flowers.

Flower Crowns by Xristina from La Vie Rosie

11 am to 1pm, $60

La Vie Rosie creates handcrafted, one of a kind wreaths, crowns, centerpieces, hanging pieces and anything else one can dream up. Fresh living plants are incorporated into her designs so that they continue to root and grow over time, and fresh herbs are delicately woven into dry beautifully and be used for spicing and aromatherapy. La Vie Rosie strives to use as many sustainable materials as possible so that her designs can live on! Participants in her workshop will create a fresh flower and herb crown to wear that day and then learn how to dry and reuse it for a second life!

wallflowersReclaimed Planter by Stella and Miriam of The Garden Apartment

1:30 pm to 3:30pm, $35

The Garden Apartment is a collaboration between the Aussie-Swiss design duo Miriam Josi and Stella Lee Prowse. Based in New York and Paris, they make flat-packed planters from reclaimed sails. In their interactive design workshop, you’ll learn about reclaimed materials and minimal construction, and create a self-constructed vessel ready to hold local flowers!

4 pm to 6pm, $65

Molly Oliver Flowers is a sustainable floral design business run by urban farmers Molly Culver of the Youth Farm and Deborah Greig of East New York Farms, creating authentically beautiful flower arrangements featuring locally-grown, seasonal blooms to Brooklyn and beyond.

Taproot’s floral design classes are taught by Rachel Gordon. The owner of Taproot, Rachel thinks that farmers are awesome and local flowers are prettier than imported ones. Their flowers are all grown within 200 miles of their Crown Heights, Brooklyn workshop. She was trained by some of the finest florists in the US and England.
