Head to the new space Exhibit C. for a conscious night out with four global change makers. Vedic Meditation Teacher Hunter Cressman opens the evening with a 20-minute silent meditation. Afterwards, guests will indulge in Chef Daphne Cheng’s celebrated vegetable-focused cuisine while Dr. Lana Morrow presents a TED style Neuroscience lecture. Everything culminates in a mystical journey of Mind Travel, performed by composer Murray Hidary. Imagine unbound sounds resonating from a stunning Steinway piano, coupled with transporting visuals – Mind Matters promises to truly provide a feast for all senses.

The ethical fashion mag Sumzine is taking over the art/fashion space Seaport Studio! For six weeks, the downtown-style, artsy publication will be showing artwork from Issue 3 in the light-filled upstairs gallery. During the residency, original artwork will be on view from Andre Herrero x Brady Gunnell, Paul Wackers, Monica Kim Garza, Natalee Ranii-Dropcho, Stephanie Szerlip, Jaime Larios, plus exclusive prints and a small curation of staff-picked zines will be available. Also at Seaport Studio, find sustainable brands like A Peace Treaty, One Ground, and Study NY.

In one month over 80 world leaders will converge on Paris, France to attend the global COP 21 summit; the aim is to reach a single agreement on addressing and curbing climate change, with the goal of capping warming at 2C over pre-Industrial Revolution levels. But they won’t be the only ones in Paris…a global coalition of climate justice activist that include frontline communities, indigenous communities and other concerned global citizens will be there to remind our leaders that this is our fight too and we demand results. Join hosts Environmental Action, Patagonia, Sane Energy Project and Sierra Club at the SoHo Patagonia Store in lower Manhattan for a very special event and screening of Avi Lewis and Naomi Klein’s film, This Changes Everything. The host organizations along with distinguished local climate champions will take part in a panel to discuss the work being done in New York City to resist climate change and the work ahead of us leading up to and following the COP21 summit before watching the movie. The event includes raffles for Patagonia gear, vegan food and GMO free popcorn. All proceeds will go towards continuing local climate resistance projects in New York City.

Thru April 3 @ The Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine, 1047 Amsterdam Avenue, Manhattan

The Value of Food: Sustaining a Green Planet is an art exhibition hosted by the Cathedral, in keeping with its long history of engagement with issues of social justice, the environment, support for the arts, and community involvement. Guest curated by Kirby Gookin and Robin Kahn, the exhibition focuses on food security, accessibility, and sustainability by bringing together artists who not only grapple with these issues, but also actively engage the audience. Installed in the bays and chapels inside the Cathedral, as well as throughout the gardens, the exhibition is divided into seven thematic sections: Water, Soil, Seed, Farm, Market, Meal, and Waste—a reflection of the cycle of food production. Additionally, the Cathedral will host a number of presentations and workshops by speakers who make community outreach and participation a central part of their practice. These programs will include—but are not limited to—panels on urban farming, labor rights, the history of the dishes that many of us know and love, and the relationships between food and faith.

This year, to celebrate the Brooklyn Fashion + Design Accelerator’s first year in operation, the Brooklyn Fashion + Design Accelerator is launching the first annual Pratt Institute/BF+DA Positive Impact Awards. The BF+DA venture fellows will be hosting open studios, the production LAB knitting machines and music will be cranking and we’ll be serving BF+DA “positive impact” cocktails and locally produced treats. Most importantly, they will honor 15 amazing individuals who have taken the challenge to advance the future of the fashion industry around the environment and society in 2015 and celebrate the BF+DA’s success!
