I went down to my sister's to celebrate my nephew's birthday a couple weeks ago, and I decided to actually pop a little color in my wardrobe for the occasion! You see, I'm actually, technically, southern, even though I walk and talk like a Yankee. Both sides of my family are southern – Mississippi, St. Louis, and North Carolina – and two-thirds of my life I spent living in states south of the Mason Dixon line. And in down there, color (especially pastels) is appreciated. You won't catch me in a Lilly dress, but I try. I wore a hat from Indego Africa, a tank from the sustainable and affordable Amour Vert (100% linen and made in the U.S.), a vintage turtle necklace, conventional jeans that I bought two years ago, and shoes by Ix Style. Ix Style's huaraches shoes are made by Guatemalan artisans of leather and AZO-free cotton. For every Ix Style purchase, Ix donates to Asociacion Puente, to provide clean drinking water to children in Guatemala. Ix Style provides free returns and exchanges, so when the first pair came and they were too small, I swapped them out for a new pair. The second pair fit, but the right one almost immediately gave me two blisters. However, if you like the way they look, I encourage you to try your own pair. My friend Faye of Sustaining Life says she owns a pair and they are insanely comfortable for her. Everyone's feet are different! PS. I picked up a cool trick to get my hair to air dry this way! I twist my hair into a half-up bun, then twist the bottom part into a another bun. Then after a half hour or so of air drying, I let it out and gently run argan oil through it. Voila – I am loving my curls this summer!
