You probably already know the broad outlines of how f*** our beauty industry is, but just in case you didn’t, here are some facts:
- The average US woman puts 168 chemicals on her body every day in her personal care.
- 89% of personal care/beauty ingredients have not been evaluated by the FDA.
- 60% what goes on your skin is absorbed into your bloodstream. And what is absorbed has an impact: just think of nicotine and birth control patches!
This can be scary, but instead of flailing about and spending an hour reading every ingredient label in your local drugstore, I would suggest doing a deep dive – immerse yourself in the green beauty industry, learn how to navigate the scene, and make some friends in the process!
