OutdoorFest, is a 1- day festival working to get urban dwellers more connected to the outdoors and bring together the outdoor adventure community in NYC. It kicks off with a camping event on Saturday, June 11th on Staten Island. The campout includes beer, live music, yoga, stargazing with astronomers, a 5K-night trail race and more! Learn survival skills, compete in a 5K-night trail run race, stargaze, enjoy live music and meet fellow outdoor enthusiasts.

Part sociological experiment and part adventure comedy, Vegucated follows three meat- and cheese-loving New Yorkers who agree to adopt a vegan diet for six weeks. Lured by tales of weight lost and health regained, they begin to uncover the hidden sides of animal agriculture that make them wonder whether solutions offered in films like Food, Inc. go far enough. This entertaining documentary showcases the rapid and at times comedic evolution of three people who discover they can change the world one bite at a time.

Summer Friday at Union Square Greenmarket

The first of three Summer Fridays in Union Square, the market stays open late with live music, a beer and cider garden, and prepared foods from neighborhood restaurants like Luke’s Lobster, Palo Santo, Print, Blue Water Grill, The Pavilion, and Barbounia, plus seven craft beverage producers selling locally made beer and spirits by the bottle and can.

Unfamiliar produce is tempting, but what to do with it? Join Chef and Organic Farmer Megan Huylo to learn how to creatively and deliciously use everything in the CSA box, every time. Have fun preparing and eating this fresh, vegan menu, including six different dishes like strawberry rhubarb hand pies and wheatberry “risotto” with kale and garlic scape pesto.

Inspired by Nepalese Seasons: Rain and Ritual, learn what essential oils are and how they work on the nervous system and trigger responses in the limbic system of the brain, the place that evokes emotions and memories. Guided by Sharon Slowik, an essential oil therapist, experience the essence of summer through discussion, a relaxation exercise, and by sampling a variety of aromas. You will create your own personal formula from several essential oils, such as lavender, vetivert, bergamot, basil, cedar, and lemongrass, among others, to take home and savor throughout the season.
