Mi amores, I know you would never stoop so low as to get one of those boxes of chocolate from the drugstore. Let’s elevate the Valentine’s chocolate experience a bit.
Farm to People sells a variety of organic, vegan, raw, Fair Trade, unprocessed, GMO-free, Brooklyn-crafted candy, and they ship all over the country. There’s something here for men, women, and people who secretly buy chocolate for themselves around Valentine’s Day because SELF LOVE, OK?
For the rule breaker: Absinthe and black salt caramels. These candies from Seattle-based Jonboy Caramels contain all-natural ingredients–many of them organic–jazzed up with local Pacifique Absinthe.
For the health nut: Almond butter and puffed quinoa dark chocolate bar. A more traditional (indulgent!) choice from probably the healthiest restaurant in NYC, this is almond butter encased in dark chocolate. The quinoa is organic, and everything is free of refined sugar (it uses coconut sugar instead), gluten, dairy, emulsifiers, stabilizers, soy and GMOs.
For the vegan: Basket o’ Roses. These sparkling candies use fresh Anjou pears, along with natural rose extract and color derived from vegetables. Each bite transports you to a rose filled garden. They are non-GMO. Willamette Valley Confectionery employ the time-honored European method for preparing their sparkling candies. That method uses only pectin to make the jell (no gelatin), so they are vegan.
For the romantic: Be Mine. This ultimate Valentine’s Day collection hits all the bases–from edible roses in the form of Pâte De Fruit to Decadent Chocolate Truffles to a Raw Raspberry Chocolate Bar.
For the dude’s dude: Beer and Pretzel Caramels. NYC fave Liddabit’s most popular treat, these tasty morsels have crunchy chunks of salty Martin’s pretzels stirred into silky caramel with Brooklyn Brewery’s Brown Ale and East India Pale Ale.
For the Brooklyn aficianado: Mast Brother’s Brooklyn Blend. This Mast Brothers in-house blend is a beautifully balanced chocolate, with hints of red wine, tobacco and plum
For the caffeine addict: Buzzed Bundle. Keep them up all night with chocolate espresso beans, espresso cacao brittle, and coffee chocolate roasted with Stumptown coffee beans.
For the luxury lover: Caramel and Sea Salt Collection. Twelve luscious 71% Ecuadorian single bean dark chocolate bonbons filled with caramel and topped with Hawaiian sea salt.
For the farm-to-table foodie: Chai Goat’s Milk Caramels. These award-winning caramels are handmade at Big Picture Farm, using fresh, raw goat’s milk supplied by their herd of healthy, happy, free-browsing companions. The organic chai is supplied by Big Picture Farm’s friend, Neil Harley, of Vermont’s Chai Wallah.
For the peanut butter lover: Chocolate peanut butter bites. Made with an extra helping of sea salt harvested from the West Coast, coated in organic dark chocolate, and dusted with dark cacao powder, they’ll make your date go, “Reese’s who?”
For the nostalgic: Chocolate Topped Mallows. The first known marshmallow candy dates back to ancient Egypt where beekeepers mixed honey and the sap of the marshmallow plant, medicinally used since antiquity for aiding in digestion and healing sore throats. These mallows are made with Kosher Grass-Fed Gelatin and Organic Marshmallow Root. Apotheker’s mallows are sweetened only with pure clover honey sourced from a fifth generation beekeeper in Colorado. They have added organic marshmallow root as a nod to the original.
For the snuggler: Hot Cocoa. Made with Fair Trade cocoa and a mix of milk and dark chocolate chips. All the cocoa is hand selected in the Dominican Republic.
For the health nut: Salted Chocolate Coconut Squares. They are handmade in small batches and exclusively contain certified organic, nutrient-dense, virgin, and certified raw ingredients. These Salted Chocolate Coconut Squares do not contain any processed flours, processed sugars, gluten, animal or dairy products, or genetically modified additives. Sweet. uses low-temperature cooking methods to create enzyme and nutrient-rich desserts for you to enjoy in total health.
For your Valentine: V is for Chocolate. Knipschildt’s Sea Salt Caramel Truffles are rich and drool worthy, Hu Kitchen’s Almond Butter Puffed Quinoa are soft and crunchy and Hot Cakes Chocolate Espresso Beans have just the right amount of sweet for your sweet.
