I consider an elegant watch the final touch to any ladyboss outfit. I like my watches in a neutral color that works with a variety of outfits. But the watch I currently own, a gold Burberry fashion watch that was my main Christmas gift about four years ago, is not at all sustainable. (Unless you consider the fact that I wear it pretty constantly.) Also, it’s a nice design, but I’ve moved away from wanting to wear ostentatious labels.

So this cork watch by iSprout at Uncommon Goods* is a nice alternative: sustainable while still being sleek and neutral, it can be paired with almost any outfit. Its slender band is made from all-natural cork, derived from the sustainably harvested bark of the Cork Oak. Cork is durable, flexible, and naturally water resistant. The matching casing is made from biodegradable corn resin, and the battery is mercury-free.

I’ll still wear my shiny gold watch on occasion, but I’m happy to have an affordable alternative. (It only costs $45.)
Eco-friendly cork watch

You actually could get lost looking through Uncommon Goods’ other jewelry sections, here, here, and here – there are so many interesting and pretty designs! Their focus is on promoting and selling unique designs by artists and makers. And they try to be sustainable in every aspect of the business. They work with their artists to use sustainable or recycled materials whenever possible, choose environmentally friendlier packing materials, and print their catalog on Forest Stewardship Council [FSC] certified and recycled paper. If you live in NYC, the item will ship from their warehouse right in Brooklyn.

Just block out at least an hour to peruse. There’s so much to look at and squeal over, you’ll need it.
